Now, more than ever, Catholic Schools Week is a time to celebrate the enduring value of Catholic education. Each year at this time, we focus on the gift that Catholic education provides to America's young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation. During the week, we will honor those who contribute to the success of Sacred Heart Catholic School - students, families, faculty, staff, volunteers, community supporters, and local leaders.
This year's theme, "Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life," underscores the commitment of Catholic schools to continue a tradition of paying dividends for years to come. You can count on Sacred Heart to instill in students the faith, knowledge, morals, and discipline that will enable them to fulfill their future roles as committed citizens, productive employees, and effective leaders.
Please join us for a week of celebrations ...
Sunday, January 31 - Dividends for Life in our Parish
We will begin our celebration with a Catholic Schools Week Mass at 9am. All students and their families are encouraged to attend our 9am Mass, wearing school uniforms. Students shall serve as greeters and shall pass out hand-decorated prayer intention cards to parishioners. Look for our alumni, who will also be serving during Mass.
Following the 9am Mass, we will host our annual Open House within the school. Prospective and new parents and students are welcome to join us. Meet the teachers and staff. Tour the classrooms. Visit with us and see why we are so excited about our school!
Monday, February 1 - Dividends for Life in our Community
Middle schoolers (6th thru 8th grades) may come to school out of uniform. Elementary students (K4 thru 5th grades) must be in uniform.
We will begin our day with a pep rally hosted by our cheerleaders. Local leaders will join us and speak to the students about faith, knowledge, discipline, and morals as they pertain to community service. We're preparing goodies and thank you letters for our leaders to share when they return to their places of employment.
Students should bring peanut butter on Monday to donate to the Christian Service Center.
Tuesday, February 2 - Dividends for Life in our Vocations
We will celebrate our weekly Mass on Tuesday at 9am. Prayers will be dedicated to all priests and sisters who now serve or who have served the parish. We will pray for those in the seminary and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood or religious life.
We will recognize our teachers and staff at the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by the Home and School Association. Parent volunteers will relieve the teachers and staff, staying with the classes during the lunch period and giving them a well deserved break.
We will close our day with the much anticipated 8th grade versus teachers volleyball game in the PAC. The game will start at 2pm ... you wouldn't want to miss it.
Students should bring soap on Tuesday to donate to the Christian Service Center.
Wednesday, February 3 - Dividends for Life in our Nation
Elementary students may come to school out of uniform, dressed in red, white, and blue.
We will begin the day with a thoughtful flag raising ceremony.
Middle schoolers will attend the Deanery Mass in Macon.
Our 8th graders will take over our very own nation - the school - at 2:45pm. The tradition remains a favorite for all students.
Students should bring canned goods on Wednesday to donate to the Christian Service Center.
Thursday, February 4 - Dividends for Life in our Students
All students may come out of uniform in comfortable clothes. Students may also bring a blanket and pillow for reading time with their Prayer Partners.
Students will jumpstart the Student Appreciation day by feasting on donuts and juice.
At 1:45pm, students will participate in a Math Bee in the PAC.
Following the Math Bee, Prayer Partners will read together and share some quality time in the PAC.
Students should bring toothbrushes and toothpaste on Thursday to donate to the Christian Service Center.
Friday, February 5 - Dividends for Life in our Parents and Volunteers
We will conclude our week with our annual Poetry Contest. Parents and families are invited to attend and listen as our students compete for top honors. The Poetry Contest begins at 10am and takes place in the PAC.
Following the Poetry Contest, parents are invited to eat lunch with the students. Forms will be sent home for parents to preorder pizza.
Our day will conclude with an early dismissal.
